Dr Maeve Hinds

Dr Maeve Hinds is a clinical health psychologist, with over 10 years of experience working across leading NHS settings in London and in the South East of England and Northern Ireland. Maeve brings a depth of expertise to her work.

Maeve is currently working within the UCLH Paediatric Psychology Service and has previously worked within specialist oncology and respiratory services. Maeve specialises in working with people who live with a long-term and/or life-limiting health condition(s). She offers compassionate, evidence-based care to help individuals and families navigate the emotional and psychological impact of illness. As part of her role at UCLH, Maeve works alongside young people who have a diagnosis of functional health conditions like myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome and functional neurological disorder.

Alongside Maeve’s work in health, Maeve works to support people navigating difficulty with self-criticism, anxiety and low mood. Maeve recognises how these emotions and experiences can make a person feel stuck, overwhelmed or no longer true to who they want to be. Drawing on a narrative approach, Maeve invites clients to explore the life chapters, relationships and societal messages that have shaped how they see themselves and move through the world. Maeve works holistically and aims to help her clients integrate the mind and body, to make sense of the patterns and experiences that might contribute to their current difficulties. She recognises that emotions often find expression through the body, sometimes long before they can be put into words. Attuned to these ‘body talkers’, which may show up as tension, fatigue or restlessness – Maeve supports clients in exploring how their bodies might be holding stories of distress, protection or resilience. Through this process, she helps clients connect with these embodied narratives with curiosity and compassion, creating space for new understandings and more preferred ways of being to emerge.

Maeve works collaboratively with her clients to develop a bespoke therapeutic plan for change. She draws on a range of psychological interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Systemic ways of working. Her tailored, integrative approach supports clients in improving quality of life, building resilience and finding meaning and strength through challenging times.
