Joanna is an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist, having worked for 26 years across working age adult and older people’s NHS mental health services. Joanna has worked with people and their families to address a wide range of mild to complex issues from loss and grief, depression, anxiety, early trauma and relational difficulties to navigating life events such as adjusting to physical health changes including the onset and progression of dementia. These difficulties might present in different ways such as feeling overwhelmed or needing to put on a ‘front’ or difficulties with relationships at work or home.
Joanna believes in a holistic formulation which considers the problematic experience in the person’s wider context. When meeting, Joanna may discuss with you that an extended assessment may be helpful to develop a more comprehensive formulation. If therapy is recommended, Joanna is particularly experienced in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (see www.acat.me.uk) and uses EMDR (https://emdrassociation.org.uk/). These can be offered as stand-alone therapeutic interventions or used integratively, alongside drawing on other approaches such as cognitive-behavioural, systemic and mentalisation based therapy. Any assessment or therapy and the approach taken will be discussed and agreed with you.
As a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Joanna adheres to a professional code of conduct and completes on-going training and professional development to maintain her registration. She also has experience of providing supervising, consultation, management and leadership in the NHS.
