Charlotte has extensive experience within the NHS, specifically in perinatal mental health services. In her private work she works with adults experiencing a range of common difficulties such as anxiety or low mood and is a specialist at supporting parents with challenges in the perinatal period. These include fertility issues and loss, gender disappointment, fear of birth, birth trauma, intrusive thoughts, antenatal and postnatal anxiety and depression and difficulties bonding. She supports parents to adjust whether it is their first child or they are juggling a growing family. She believes that people are always trying their best to cope, but sometimes these ways of coping can stop working as well or become problems themselves. She always holds in mind how much pressure there is to be ‘perfect’ parents and how much strain that can cause.
Depending on the client’s preferences, she uses and integrates therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) and systemic family therapy. She believes that feeling safe and understood is key to getting the most from therapy, so she creates a compassionate and non-judgemental space for clients to talk through their difficulties, and works together with clients towards their desired goals.
