Meet Dr Madeleine Jago, Principal Clinical Psychologist and co-founder of Seven Lion Yard. Working extensively across South London for many years in addition to her role in the NHS, Madeleine struggled to find a consulting space in the area that was sufficiently calming and designed with the therapeutic experience in mind. She therefore created the clinic at Seven Lion Yard to be a calming and contemplative environment that serves as a sanctuary from external stressors, and which can help foster a meaningful connection between client and therapist.
In her experience, true psychological change requires working both with what people know (their thoughts) and what people feel in their bodies (their emotions). Taking a purely cognitive or analytical approach can miss the body-based, emotional and unconscious drivers of behaviour. Using and integrating body-based, somatic approaches like mindfulness, meditation and breathwork can help people become more attuned to their emotional responses and result in a more meaningful and enduring change in wellbeing.
She therefore developed the programme of classes in the group studio to support nervous system regulation and help manage stress. Many of our customers simply come to unwind, reset and experience our soothing studio, alongside those who might be working with a psychologist as well.
Our vision for Seven Lion Yard is to be a holistic wellbeing centre for mind and body in a calm, soothing and welcoming environment. We welcome you to join us for a group class or contact us if you are interested in psychological support. Our friendly team would be happy to help you and we hope you enjoy the space we have created!
