Our cognitive assessment process is thorough, involving three stages to ensure that we gather a comprehensive understanding of your child’s cognitive abilities and any areas of concern.
1. Initial Consultation (Clinical Interview)
The first step is a clinical interview, which usually lasts around an hour. This can take place via video call or face-to-face, depending on your preference. During this appointment, Dr Sasha will discuss any concerns you have regarding your child’s learning, behaviour, or development. This conversation helps gather background information and guides decisions on which specific assessments and tests to use.
2. Cognitive Assessment
In the second stage, Dr Sasha will meet with your child in person for a one-on-one assessment session. During this session, your child will engage in various thinking games, puzzles, and tasks that are designed to assess different areas of cognitive functioning. These tests are tailored to your child's age and unique needs and typically cover areas such as problem-solving, memory, attention, and language skills. This is a relaxed and child-friendly session, where the goal is to help your child feel comfortable while information is gathered about their cognitive abilities.
3. Report and Feedback
After the assessment, Dr Sasha will compile a detailed report based on the findings. This report will outline your child’s cognitive strengths and challenges, and importantly, it will include specific, tailored recommendations for how to support their learning and development at home and school. She will then arrange a time to go over the report in a follow-up session, which can be done via video call or face-to-face. During this feedback session, she will discuss the results in detail, answer any questions, and ensure that you and your child (if appropriate) understand the findings and next steps.
Cognitive Assessment Benefits
Cognitive assessments provide parents, caregivers, and teachers with crucial insights into how a child learns, processes information, and interacts with their environment. These insights can then be used to develop targeted strategies that not only address areas of difficulty but also build on a child’s strengths, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.
